Compendium of Hygiene Promotion in Emergencies

The Compendium of Hygiene Promotion in Emergencies is the third volume of the Emergency WASH Compendium series on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). It provides a comprehensive and systematic compilation of relevant and sector-tested components, tools, methods and approaches for designing and implementing successful hygiene promotion interventions. The compendium draws on the latest initiatives, materials and lessons learned in the field of hygiene promotion in emergency response. The compendium breaks down hygiene promotion into its functional components and offers context-specific recommendations for action. It is thus both an important standard work for knowledge transfer in the humanitarian WASH sector and a concrete planning aid that supports decision-making on appropriate and context-specific hygiene promotion measures.

The development of this publication is a joint initiative of Global WASH Cluster partners led by the German WASH Network, the International Red Cross and Crescent Movement (IFRC) and the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) with support from the German Federal Foreign Office and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
